The Silos Bloodshot CD Release Show
with J. Roddy Walston and the Business
Friday, April 20

When the Silos return to the Roots Café in April, they will be celebrating the February release of “Come On Like The Fast Lane," their first release for Bloodshot Records and their first studio album in three years. Recording in Phillip Glass’s Looking Glass Studios, the trio layered guitars and voices to create an atmosphere suitable for the urban stories of guitarist-singer-songwriter Walter Salas-Humara. He has an unusual ability to mix the punchy rhythms, brittle guitars and caustic skepticism of his current home, New York, with the lyrical melodies and resilient optimism of his Cuban-American background. It has been 19 years since the Silos were voted the “Best New American Band” in Rolling Stone's 1987 Critics Poll. The Silos were too prickly and droning to ever become the next big thing, but they were also too smart and seductive to ever be abandoned by their loyal following. As the New York Times put it, “The band’s austere style inflects the astringent twang of The Velvet Underground with the drone of R.E.M. and adds countryish echoes that recall Gram Parsons."
